Caterham & District Carnival Committee held their annual darts competition on Saturday 28th January at Caterham Ex Serviceman’s Club, in Townend, Caterham.

The first fundraising event of the year organised by John O’Neill, attracted 12 teams, with many families taking part.

Humphrey United triumphed over the Old Gits (last years winners) in the final of this knockout competition. Humphrey United’s team were Hedley Humphrey, Dave Humphrey, William Humphrey, Mick Holman, Lee Jones and Joe Shanahan.

The winner of the plate competition was Pugwash.

Trophies and plates were donated by local business JJ Browne & Son (Jewellers) Ltd and presented by Martin Vaux , Chairman of the Carnival Committee.

This years Beneficiaries from Caterham Carnival will be 12th Caterham Scouts, Caterham District Girl Guides, Ridge Radio and Caterham & Whyteleafe Tennis Club.

On Sunday 13th November 2011 The Annual Caterham Remembrance Day Parade took place. Meeting at Caterham Ex Servicemen’s Club in Townend, Caterham on the Hill, members of Caterham Branch of the Royal British Legion laid wreaths at the Memorial outside the club.

Ex servicemen and women followed the Surrey Pipe Band as the parade then marched up the High Street and along Church Road, where more wreaths were laid at the War Memorial in the grounds of St Lawrence’s Church before the Memorial Service in St Mary’s Church, Caterham.

The morning was bright and sunny Local Councillor Jeremy Webster took the salute from the Parade on their return to the Memorial at Caterham Ex Serviceman’s Club. The ladies section of Caterham Branch of the Royal British Legion had prepared welcoming refreshments for those taking part in the Parade.

The 3rd Caterham Festival, Street Party took place in Caterham High Street on Sunday 29th May 2011. Thousands of people turned out to see local bands, choirs, and individual musicians perform live on 3 stages along the High Street and Townend.

The 5th plinth proved popular with individuals just standing up to sing a song!

Some of the bands performing this year were The Antidote, Streets Apart, Stolen ID, Sound Proof, Forty45, and the ever-popular Caterham band The Stone Beats.

All Saints’ Warlingham Handbell Ringers made a welcome return with Rumple Drumskin bringing the street party to a close after performing the length of the High Street.

Ridge radio the new local radio station were in attendance, while No Name Jive held a Vintage Tea Dance in the Community Centre with a free dance lesson.

There was plenty for the children to do; they could play twister or chess, have their nails painted or try a little juggling with the help of circus performers. A big attraction was the live statue, who entertained both young and old.

On Saturday 12th February the Caterham & District Carnival, Darts Tournament took place at Caterham Ex-Servicemen’s Social Club in Townend, Caterham. Fourteen teams took part, in what is now an annual event, with many supporters cheering on the teams. [Read more…]
