On Sunday 13th November 2011 The Annual Caterham Remembrance Day Parade took place. Meeting at Caterham Ex Servicemen’s Club in Townend, Caterham on the Hill, members of Caterham Branch of the Royal British Legion laid wreaths at the Memorial outside the club.

Ex servicemen and women followed the Surrey Pipe Band as the parade then marched up the High Street and along Church Road, where more wreaths were laid at the War Memorial in the grounds of St Lawrence’s Church before the Memorial Service in St Mary’s Church, Caterham.

The morning was bright and sunny Local Councillor Jeremy Webster took the salute from the Parade on their return to the Memorial at Caterham Ex Serviceman’s Club. The ladies section of Caterham Branch of the Royal British Legion had prepared welcoming refreshments for those taking part in the Parade.

On Sunday 28th June 2011 the League of Friends of Caterham Dene Hospital held there last Summer Fete, in the field adjacent to the hospital in Church Road, Caterham.

After many, many years, the League of Friends have decided they can no longer continue without younger helpers. As the small fundraising committee find it too much. So will now have to think of other ways in which to raise funds for the hospital.

The sun shone and families came to enjoy the sunshine, entertainment and the many stalls. FRB – Firestone Rock Band a group of disabled musicians from Redhill provided the music. A line-dancing club from Old Coulsdon preformed in the arena. The dog show had many entrants with owners and pets trying to find a little shade on this glorious afternoon.

Local author Gwyneth Fookes attracted many visitors to the Bourne Society stall, signing her new book The ‘Big Houses’ of Victorian Caterham. Other stalls attending were Cats Protection, Caterham Harestone Rotary, Caterham, Godstone and Oxted Lions Club as well as many stalls run by the League of Friends.

Ex Servicemen and women followed the Surrey Pipe Band to lead The Caterham Annual Remembrance Day Parade, on Sunday 14th November 2010. The parade was very well attended by local uniformed groups of all ages and many local families. [Read more…]

On 27th June The League of Friends of Caterham Dene Hospital had competition for the Annual Summer Fete as England were playing Germany in the World Cup! Members of the congregation of St Mary’s Church in Church Road, Caterham-on-the-Hill, put on a pantomime of Hansel and Gretel in The Emperor’s New Clothes’ on 29th and 30th January 2010 to raise funds towards the cost of a new boiler installed last year at a cost of £10,000.

Many of the cast are family groups, including the Rector with his wife and two sons. This is the 5th pantomime they have preformed and are hoping to beat the £1000 raised at last years pantomime.
