Church Walk Shopping Centre in Caterham celebrated both St George’s Day and Easter on Saturday 23rd April. In attendance were Saint George, Saint Nick, Lady Shelly, Bo Peep and Caterham’s very own Town Crier Sonia Hunt.

In glorious sunshine 25 children took part in an Easter Bonnet Parade around Church Walk Shopping Centre before the judges decided Jessie Age 5 wore the best bonnet. Danny Age 6 judged to be second with Mollie aged 7 coming 3rd.

Guides from 7th Caterham took part in the parade as well as running a soft toy tombolla stall to raise funds for their group. All participants received an Easter egg for taking part.

The 4th Caterham Rotary 5km Race took place in glorious sunshine on Sunday 17th April 2011 starting in Queens Park, Caterham going out through scenic Chaldon before returning to Queens Park for the finish line.

Rolf Chouton was the first across the winning line with a time of 19.51, while the first lady was Phyllis Flynn with a time of 20:54. A group of six, running on behalf of St Catherine’s Hospice came in together with a time of 01:17:43. All participants received an Easter egg for their efforts.

The 4th Easter Bunny Fun Run organised by Rotary Club of Caterham took place on Sunday 18th April 2011 in glorious sunshine in Queens Park, Caterham. Over 100 runners took part in the 1km Fun Run helping to raise funds for St Catherine’s Hospice and other local charities.

Local businesses, which sponsored the event, included myself, Local Event Photos, The Caterham and District Independent, Catax Ltd, Ross Cycles, BCL Systems and Harestonelops and George Page was the first across the winning line of the 1km fun run with every runner receiving an Easter egg on completion of the course. Those taking part this year included a group of brownies from Chaldon with their Brown Owl and a group from Harestonelops with real live rabbits!

On Sunday 17th April, Tinkerbell a rescue pony from Chaldon carried seven year old Tianna Moon around the cricket green at The Village on Caterham Hill followed by her attendants before being crowned Caterham May Queen. [Read more…]

The Caterham and District Horticultural Society held a Spring Show at Hillcroft School in Chaldon Road, Caterham on Saturday 9th April.

At their first show of the year Tabitha Wren age 7 stole the show with five 1st places including the Woolwich Building Society Cup. Other winners included Mrs Fancourt, Mr P Chapman and Mr Joe Perera. [Read more…]
