On Sunday 4th July 2010 a sponsored bike ride was held at Kenley Aerodrome to raise funds for a new toilet block at Skaterham, the local skate park based in the old Guards Chapel in Guards Avenue, Caterham.
Alex Edge from Alexander Crescent in Caterham wanted to raise the £30,000 himself, needed for the new toilet block after hearing members of staff discussing the need to raise the money. With other members of Skaterham and the help of his Mum Maria and Dad Simon the Sponsored event was organised in just 3 weeks.
Local businesses gave support by donating raffle prizes, Michael Lord provided a barbeque and Hi Bounce provided a bouncy slide to make a fun filled afternoon.
74 Entrants took part, going around the airfield, which is 2 miles long on anything with wheels, which was not motorised. Riders went round on bicycles, scooters, roller blades, and pushchairs. One Mum skated around on roller blades while pushing her baby in a pushchair!
