The 5th Kenley Common Family Fun Day was on Sunday 11th July with over 50 stalls and attractions; many activities were free due to local sponsorship and support form Kendra.
A reptile zoo with snakes, crocodiles and lizards caught the attention of many visitors as well as Birds of Prey displays. Another unusual attraction was the medieval ‘living history’ group with their encampment, re-enacting life in the 14th/15th Century with dancing, swordplay and archery.
Great Northwood Morris Men entertained the crowds and even involved some of them in their dance routine. If you hadn’t brought your own picnic there was plenty to eat with, homemade tea and cakes served by All Saints Church, a barbeque selling burgers and hotdogs, an ice cream van or the Pimms Tent.
Tractor rides proved very popular, as did the face painting, with some works of art being painted on some faces! The children thorough enjoyed taking part in the races organized for them; we may even have seen some future Olympic Athletes on the field.
Among some of the stalls were Surrey Wildlife Trust, Friends of Kenley Common, Old Surrey Downs Project, Friends of Foxley Wood, a local Stick maker, a local beekeeper selling honey.
